Buoyancy above a sandy bottom
Sand is the best place to notice what your fins are doing.

Safety and training
General field notes, not a dive plan. Stay within your training, follow local site rules and the operator’s briefing.
Field observation
Hover at a comfortable height and watch the shadow or a fixed point to see whether you sink or rise. Small, calm breaths reveal changes more clearly than large hand movements.
A practical approach
Make weighting adjustments only with appropriate supervision and a safe procedure; avoid kneeling on living bottom even during practice.
Dive-day checklist
Before you go
- Check local conditions and access rules
- Agree limits and the exit with your buddy
- Stop or change the plan if conditions differ
General guidance only. Follow your training, the dive operator’s procedures, and each manufacturer’s current instructions.
