Diving above a seagrass meadow

Seagrass is a living habitat, not an empty patch between reefs.

Diving above a seagrass meadow

Safety and training

General field notes, not a dive plan. Stay within your training, follow local site rules and the operator’s briefing.

01

Field observation

Meadows shelter juvenile fish and stabilize sediment. A fin stroke close to the bottom can tear leaves or stir silt across the bed; a camera should not become a reason to settle on it.

02

A practical approach

Agree a route over sand where possible, keep fins clear of the leaves and observe wildlife without chasing it.

Dive-day checklist

Before you go

  • Check local conditions and access rules
  • Agree limits and the exit with your buddy
  • Stop or change the plan if conditions differ

General guidance only. Follow your training, the dive operator’s procedures, and each manufacturer’s current instructions.
