Diving under a jetty
The shade and pilings make a small area surprisingly rich in life.

Safety and training
General field notes, not a dive plan. Stay within your training, follow local site rules and the operator’s briefing.
Field observation
Watch for boat traffic, fishing lines, sharp encrustations and changing light beneath the structure. Many jetties restrict access; overhead spaces and confined passages are not ordinary open-water dives.
A practical approach
Get permission, remain outside closed or overhead areas and plan an exit that does not require passing among active boats.
Dive-day checklist
Before you go
- Check local conditions and access rules
- Agree limits and the exit with your buddy
- Stop or change the plan if conditions differ
General guidance only. Follow your training, the dive operator’s procedures, and each manufacturer’s current instructions.
