Reading a dive coast from the lighthouse
A landmark can orient a shore plan but cannot tell you the current underwater.

Safety and training
General field notes, not a dive plan. Stay within your training, follow local site rules and the operator’s briefing.
Field observation
Note the lighthouse's bearing and the shape of the coast before entry. At the surface, a conspicuous landmark helps you locate the agreed exit, especially when several bays look alike.
A practical approach
Carry a suitable compass, agree an alternative exit and avoid surfacing in a shipping channel just to regain your bearings.
Dive-day checklist
Before you go
- Check local conditions and access rules
- Agree limits and the exit with your buddy
- Stop or change the plan if conditions differ
General guidance only. Follow your training, the dive operator’s procedures, and each manufacturer’s current instructions.
